Open Server Uptime Stats

We’ve been tracking server uptime using a 3rd party (pingdom) since mid Feb of this year. How this works is pingdom checks once every minute (that’s 1440 checks per day) that ClubReady is up and reachable over the web. They run this check from 11 locations spread over six continents.

The obvious reason for doing this 3rd party check is if ClubReady is unavailable then we need to know about it immediately, but the other reason is ClubReady is a web based service and we feel it’s important to be 100% open and transparent with our users about ClubReady uptime.

We’ve had a page in the reports section of the admin login that showed a pingdom uptime chart for the current month, but this wasn’t so easy to understand and (ironically enough) this chart wouldn’t always display.

The uptime report page has been updated to show the actual raw data. Downtime per month and how fast ClubReady loads (in ms, 1 ms = 1/1000th of a second, so a 500 ms response time means it took half a second to open a ClubReady page).

Since we started this 3rd party tracking in Feb the ClubReady site has been unavailable (ie down) for a total of 45 mins (which equates to being available 99.97% of the time). The reality is that most of that 45 mins was actually planned downtime. When we upload any changes to ClubReady then unless the change is minor, it typically means the site goes down for a while. For that reason we do such updates around 3am in the morning when no gym is using the system.

Below is how that updated admin page looks (it’s in Reports > Server Status)

Clicking on any of the months gives the detail by day for that month.
